Congratulations to the team at Seaside Homes, Lockwood Tauranga, who have been awarded a Gold award for this home in the Carters New Home $1 Million – $1.5 Million category, Bay of Plenty & Central Plateau region 2021 Master Builders House of the Year awards!
A love of Lockwood and timber prompted these homeowners to build a Lockwood home on their rural property north of Tauranga in 2001. They loved the house but, over time, felt the need to refine their living spaces, make some updates to modernise and prepare for the next stage of their lives. They looked at moving and finding another property. Nothing measured up, and they were not finished with the current property, all of the trees they had planted and the landscaping they had done. So instead of moving themselves off, they sold the 2001 Lockwood house and it went to a new site. Then Soren and his team at Lockwood Tauranga set to work designing and constructing this beauty for them.
The result is a stunning 283m² home, full of carefully planned details and a design that captures the light and surrounding rural vistas. Pops of colour in the kitchen and scullery contrasts beautifully with the natural timber tones. Texture in the concrete tile feature wall adds another layer of depth to the interior design. The homeowners took inspiration from the Lockwood website and also visited show homes around the country, with the bespoke barn doors inspired by a similar herringbone pattern in the Acacia show home in Taupo.
The entire home has a tiled floor, a practical, easy to clean choice that adds a luxury feel.
Underfloor heating courtesy of air to hot water heat pump keeps the house toasty warm. The bathrooms showcase designer touches and splashes of blue, bringing the colour scheme through from the barn doors in the living areas. Plenty of thought also went into how the home would be used, afforded by the time spent living on the site. The study is a multi-purpose space, with a Tiltaway bed cleverly hidden in the wall for when extra guests come to stay. The dining and lounge area extends into an al-fresco living space with a large covered deck, leading to the landscaped garden and the pool (kept from the previous build). The deck also provides access to the block basement, housing the wine cellar and sauna.
The homeowners have a penchant for using different natural materials to create beautiful handmade items, such as the lounge cabinet and shelving supported by rocks. They are delighted with their home and are excited to share it with friends and family, especially the grandchildren who love coming to stay.
