During the COVID-19 lockdown, clients Kevin and Linda embarked on their journey with the purchase of a home in a beachside Coromandel township. Seeking to bring their dream Lockwood beach house to life, they turned to the expertise of the team at Coastwood Homes, Lockwood Coromandel.
“We’ve always loved Lockwood, they stand the test of time.” Kevin remarks. “We have long thought about building a new Lockwood.”
The existing bach on the site was removed and a new home was planned. The design required careful consideration to make the most of the site, with a focus on creating easily accessible outdoor spaces. Drawing inspiration from the Crombie Family Home in Wellington, the unique shape of this home worked well with the available space. “The design offers privacy at both ends, and the layout suits us perfectly,” adds Linda.
Both inside and out, Kevin and Linda’s love of color shines through. “We incorporated existing furniture and worked with a designer to achieve a beachy atmosphere,” Linda explains. ” Katie [General Manager at Coastwood Homes] helped us decide on the blue exterior as they had used it on another build – we love it with the white trims and how is suits the beach town atmosphere”
Throughout the living and main bedroom, blonded knot-free pine serves as a backdrop for the colorful furnishings. Kevin and Linda stay at the home often, as do family and friends “We like to see it used as much as possible. A space that is usable where people feel comfortable was a priority.” Linda shares. “The open-plan layout with a concrete floor suits our needs perfectly and we make use of the open-plan living a great deal.”
As outdoor entertaining space was paramount, decking was installed on each side of the home providing sheltered areas for alfresco dining. An outdoor fireplace provides warmth on chillier nights.
“The entire team at Coastwood Homes was fantastic,” Linda concludes. “Katie was fabulous, fun and friendly. The entire process was enjoyable and stress-free.”
