The architectural design brief was for this spectacular home to work for two but cater easily for extended family to stay and have their own private living spaces. The existing older house on the site was knocked down and replaced with 3 square cedar clad living pods, linked by fully glazed breezeways. The pods are stepped back from Lake Taupo in such a way as to afford views to each.
The master pod incorporates a library and en-suite and a second bedroom. The second pod has a stunning indoor-outdoor riverstone fireplace, large open plan living and kitchen with scullery.
The third pod is a self-contained apartment and has the triple garages attached for boats and toys. All living and bedrooms open out onto expansive decks, which feature an overhead louvred al-fresco dining area and an indoor-outdoor fire and BBQ facility.
These clients opted to upgrade to clear (knot free) pine. Four ridge beams support the ceiling in the living area with a spectacular pyramid skylight taking centre stage, and creating the illusion of the roof floating above narrow clerestory windows.
