The Taylor family decided to embark on a full design and build option for their rocky hilltop site and immersed themselves into the planning for this project. They flew to Auckland and lived in a campervan, visiting client homes and show homes to ensure they had a good understanding of what they wanted to incorporate in their own home. Their site has spectacular 270 degree views of Golden Bay, and would need extensive retaining walls and ground works.
Friends and family were a huge factor in the design of the Taylors home; there needed to be a strong indoor-outdoor connection with generous entertaining space.
The Taylors chose a cedar-clad exterior paired with white joinery and a blonded interior finish for their timber. There is a dramatic sense of arrival as you walk through the front doors into the double volume entry space which leads to a spectacular timber staircase.
The sarking follows the gabled roofline which draws your eye straight through to incredible bay views. Floor to ceiling windows have also been used extensively which deliver unobstructed views to the hillside greenery and ocean beyond.
This home is an exceptional example of bespoke Lockwood design and build.
