Scapens Beach Home Project

The Scapens had an idyllic waterfront location on an estuary, so the design of their home needed to blend in effortlessly with the environment and not detract from the view. Long sliding landscape windows were used to capitalise on the scenery with the house opening onto a long terrace.

These clients decided to upgrade to clear pine interiors, with extra high clerestory windows and specialised timber joinery all completing the pared back look.

When these elements are combined with the large open floor plan, there is a sense of volumetric space and airiness achieved – a celebration of timber and structural design.

This family loves to entertain, so their social kitchen needed to cater to this without compromising on the overall look of the interior in their integrated space. A frosted glass splashback was chosen to keep the wood grain exposed and was paired with glass display shelving on the kitchen island. Stainless steel elements provide some harder lines for contrast against the soft timber interiors.

A contemporary GIB lined wall between kitchen and living areas features a gas fireplace and creates a visual room division for this otherwise open area.  The low maintenance polished concrete floor completes this architecturally designed beach home.
