This Kōpuha design, an ex show home from Kumeu in Auckland, features a generous central open plan living, dining and kitchen island area. This is offset well by an eye catching fireplace and shelving display unit which has been block painted to compliment the blonded timber as a focal point near the front entry. The exterior is Vertical Grain pine, an engineered Lockwood cladding (VG Pine) and has been stained a soft natural colour, which contrasts well with the dark window and sliding door aluminium joinery.
Full width landscape windows across the extensive kitchen area with the equally generous light bench tops work seamlessly with the lofty timber ceilings and skylights to bathe this central space in light.
Undermounted drawer style fridge and freezers were used in the kitchen island, freeing space against the back wall for pantry cupboards. In typical Lockwood style, striking laminated timber beams draw the eye upwards and outwards to the high clerestory windows. The popped up central area and extended eaves cleverly blend the indoor-outdoor living spaces and add an edgy element to the otherwise monopitch of the roofline.
Contemporary aqua mosaic tiles have been used in the bathroom and a clever tucked away laundry has been incorporated to the right in the kitchen.
Timber floors and several types of feature walls – including rusticated timber walls in both bedrooms featuring soft blue and grey hues, make this design a great solution for a two bedroom small home or bach.
