The use of eco-friendly materials determined every aspect of the design of this home. There is a photovoltaic system installed which is incredibly efficient and enables the clients to sell power back to the grid. Solar heated water and an energy efficient solid fuel boiler keep things toasty warm. This home is clad in cedar and the interior timber is finished with an organic wood oil as opposed to a polyurethane varnish, with recycled Rimu flooring used throughout.
An imported Japanese Hinoki bath was installed to the client’s specifications. Commercial appliances were also specified for the kitchen as the clients love to cook. Sliding panels were incorporated into the kitchen area to keep cooking smells out of the main living area.
Rainwater harvesting systems are in place, with a wastewater garden installed which removes organic matter and cleanses the water so that it can be reused for landscape irrigation.
This home is situated in Hope, Nelson and enjoys magnificent hillside views in its secluded location.
