When Graham and Ann made the move from Whangarei to Hawkes Bay to be closer to family, they wanted to build a modern, ‘lock up and leave’ low-maintenance home. They were fortunate enough to find a section just around the corner from their daughter. And, after researching different home builders, the Dawsons decided to go with Lockwood as they wanted to choose a company with good integrity and a good reputation.
They chose the Lifestyler design, a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home that now sits perfectly on their landscaped site. The Lifestyler is a popular Lockwood concept plan available as both a build-on-site and a ReadyBuilt prefabricated home option. The layout provides a private oasis with the main suite separated from the two additional bedrooms and family bathroom. The Dawsons have received plenty of compliments from family and friends on the size of the bathroom and the home’s overall spaciousness.
They made a few upgrades to the design, such as adding a door from the kitchen for direct access to the outdoor living space. The Dawsons embraced the timber interiors and opted for hard flooring throughout the home. The fit-out is light and airy, with a white kitchen and subtle engineered stone splashback. An open bookshelf creates a beautiful feature along the lounge wall while providing storage and space to display books and special items.
To enhance the outdoor living space, the Dawsons engaged a landscape architect to design the decks, fencing, and placement of the house, spa and shed. “We would recommend this investment to anyone”, they comment, and it gave Ann the chance to get creative with planting the lush garden. Although they are on town supply they installed a water tank to ensure there is water for the garden during long hot summers. They also installed solar panels on the shed for hot water and spa heating. The Dawsons spend a lot of time on the covered deck in summer and were especially pleased with the addition of the Stracto roof over the decking, which extends their living space.
Overall, the Dawsons are thrilled with their new home in Hawkes Bay and the decision to build with Lockwood. They have a beautiful, functional home that provides them with the perfect balance of indoor and outdoor living space. The Dawsons state “It’s the easiest living home we’ve ever had.”
