Talented opera singers from across New Zealand were to come together in Rotorua in October 2021 to compete for the title of one of Australasia’s most prestigious singing competitions, the Lockwood New Zealand Aria.
Sadly, the trustees of the New Zealand Aria have decided to cancel the 2021 event. The trustees have worked tirelessly to address every challenge made by Covid-19 to create a competition that kept singers, adjudicators, accompanists and the myriad of helpers and supporters safe.
Jo-Anne La Grouw, MNZM and Chairman of the New Zealand Aria Trust, says “Cancelling this year’s event has not been an easy decision. We are indebted to our adjudicators, accompanists and in particular our major sponsors Dame Malvina Major Foundation, Lockwood, Coombes Johnston BMW and the Geyser Community Foundation for their ongoing support and acknowledgement of this difficult decision.”
The Trust will now start planning for the 2022 75th Anniversary Lockwood New Zealand Aria with the Auckland Philharmonia (APO)
