We are proud to be the naming rights sponsor of the Lockwood NZ Aria. The prestigious singing competition returns to Rotorua from the 16th – 19th of November 2022.
The Aria has been in existence since 1946 and is the largest competition of its kind in New Zealand, drawing performers from throughout Australasia. The event, with substantial prize money, provides an excellent opportunity for further development in this demanding performing art. Many entrants forge careers in the opera world both in New Zealand and overseas.
The contestants will compete in heats over three days with 10 finalists selected to compete in the final, accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, on Saturday 19 November at the newly restored Sir Howard Morrison Centre. The venue has been closed since 2017 while seismic strengthening and upgrades of the Concert Chamber and Civic Theatre spaces were undertaken. The Lockwood NZ Aria will be the first event to be held at the facility.
