Talk to a Lifemark accredited builder
Anna Whyte from the Bay of Plenty Times prepared a feature story on consented homes in the Bay of Plenty region, wherein some alarming statistics were revealed regarding adaptability, usability and accessibility criteria not being met for an ageing population. In fact, only 3% of new homes built last year passed the age friendly test.
Out of 1901 homes assessed, only 54 passed the Lifemark test, according to Lifemark GM Geoff Penrose. The lack of age friendly homes was mostly due to residents not knowing what to ask for when building, and designers and builders “who are just doing what they have always done” said Geoff.
